Lead Times

The truth is, good furniture takes time.

Every Relic Modern™  piece is built by me, start to finish, in my Minneapolis studio — no warehouse, no assembly line. I select and mill the lumber, join, sand, and finish each piece by hand. That care takes time, but it's also why the wait exists: it's the difference between something pulled off a shelf and something built for you, by hand, meant to last generations.

About this Piece

A bedroom designed as one piece instead of four — bed, dresser, and two nightstands built from the same wood, finished in the same batch, with the signature exposed Baltic birch layered edges running across every surface. Platform bed available in Full, Queen, or King. Choose a drawered nightstand pair or an open shelf pair. Priced to save approximately $850 off from purchasing the pieces individually.

Why the Set

What makes the set read as one room is what doesn't vary across it. The proportions line up because the four pieces are drawn to the same scale. The wood face matches because it's cut from the same stack. The finish matches because every piece is finished in the same batch. Decision fatigue drops to three choices — bed size, wood, nightstand configuration — and the room stops asking to be decorated.

One Maker, Four Pieces, One Room

Every piece in the set is designed, built, and finished by hand in the same Minneapolis shop. The wood face is matched across pieces, the finish is cut from the same batch, and the edgedetail lines up because it came from the same saw. That's the kind of consistency that's hard to get from four separate purchases — even from four pieces of the same brand, built on different production runs.

The Pieces

Platform Bed Frame

A low, reduced-profile platform bed with an integrated headboard and a matched footboard, sized to standard Full, Queen, and King mattresses. The frame is built around a center support system sized to the mattress — two rails and four adjustable leveling legs on the king, one rail and two legs on the queen and full — engineered to stay silent under weight and come apart as cleanly as it goes together. Tool-free assembly; slats included. See full details on the individual bed page

Four-Drawer Tallboy Dresser

A vertical four-drawer case with integrated side-panel legs that taper subtly at the feet. Two small drawers on top, two large below, each drawer box dovetailed in solid maple and running on soft-close Blum® under-mount slides. Italian-made satin-gold pulls in a curved profile soften the geometry of the front face — the same pull family carried across the dresser and Nightstand No. 1 so the hardware reads as one set. See full details on the individual dresser page

Nightstand No. 1 - Drawered

A two-drawer bedside table with an integrated-leg silhouette, walnut or maple face on the top, sides, and interior, and the exposed edge-grain Baltic birch on the drawer fronts — the signature detail front-and-center rather than a side-only note. Solid maple dovetailed drawers on soft- close Blum® under-mount slides, with single horizontal Italian-made satin-gold pulls that match the dresser hardware. Scaled to sit low and clean beside the platform bed. See full details on the individual Nightstand No. 1 page

Nightstand No. 2 — Open Shelf

A two-cubby open-shelf bedside table with a middle divider and no hardware at all — rabbet and dado joinery throughout, the same integrated-leg silhouette, and the exposed Baltic birch edge striping the front of the piece. Three usable surfaces: two open cubbies and the top. A lower entry point into the set, or a lighter-footprint pairing when a pair of drawered nightstands would feel like too much casework. See full details on the individual Nightstand No. 2 page.

Finished with a hand-rubbed oil and wax blend, the pieces have a matte, warm look that enhances the natural grain of the walnut or maple.

Materials

All four pieces are built from 13-layer solid wood Baltic birch with a walnut or maple face — a stable, sustainable core that doesn't move with the seasons the way solid wood can. The layered Baltic birch edges are left exposed as a signature detail and a nod to the designers of the mid-century era. Handmade in Minneapolis.

(01) Wood: 13-layer Baltic birch on the dresser and both nightstands; two sheets of 13-layer Baltic birch laminated together (28 layers total) on the bed for structural rigidity. Walnut or maple face across all four pieces — one wood choice for the whole set. Want a mix of walnut and maple across pieces? Reach out before ordering.

(02) Joinery: Dresser and Nightstand No. 2: rabbet and dado. Nightstand No. 1: rabbet. Bed: surface-mount metal brackets at the headboard and footboard; center rails drop into wood-on-wood seats inside the frame and slip into place after the outer frame is together.

(03) Drawers (Dresser and Nightstand No. 1): Solid maple, dovetailed, with soft-close under-mount Blum® slides and six-way adjustments.

(04) Hardware (Dresser and Nightstand No. 1): Italian-made satin-gold pulls — curved profile on the dresser, single horizontal opening on Nightstand No. 1. The same hardware family on both pieces so the set reads as designed together.

(05) Finish (all four pieces): Pure tung oil, boiled linseed oil, beeswax, carnauba wax — a durable, water-resistant matte finish that feels like silky-smooth wood.

Product FAQ

(01) How long until the set ships? All four pieces are handmade to order in Minneapolis. Current lead time is listed in the box above the Add to Cart button. The set ships together when all four pieces are complete. See Shipping, Pickup & Returns for details.

(02) Will the wood color change over time? Yes. The walnut face will deepen and take on warmer, reddish tones over the first year or two, and the maple face will warm into a deeper honey color — both are natural characteristics of the species and part of what makes the pieces feel alive. The hand-rubbed oil and wax finish supports this patina rather than sealing it off.

(03) How do I care for the pieces? Use coasters, wipe up spills, and keep rough objects off the surfaces. A damp cloth is all that's needed for cleaning — no furniture polishes. The pieces can be refreshed with a bit of furniture wax when they feel dry. Additional details are on the FAQ page.

(04) Can I see a wood sample before ordering? Yes. A wood sample of the Baltic birch with the chosen face — walnut or maple — and the oil and wax finish is available through the shop.

(05) What's included in the set? One platform bed (Full, Queen, or King), one four-drawer tallboy dresser, and two nightstands. The nightstand configuration is chosen at checkout: a pair of Nightstand No. 1 (drawered), a pair of Nightstand No. 2 (open shelf), or one of each (Mixed). Two nightstands are always included — a single-nightstand configuration isn't offered in the set.

(06) Will the bed fit a standard mattress? Yes. The frame is sized to standard Full, Queen, and King mattresses, and the 12" mattress height from floor works with most mattress thicknesses, including thicker hybrid and memory foam mattresses.

(07) Can I mix walnut and maple across the pieces? The variants on this page are for one wood across all four pieces. If you want a mix — walnut bed with maple nightstands, for example — reach out before ordering.

(08) Does the set require assembly? The bed assembles tool-free on delivery (side rails into surface-mount brackets, center rail or rails drop into wood-on-wood seats, slats on top). The dresser and both nightstands ship fully assembled and ready to place. No tools, no hardware bag.

(09) Can the pieces be customized? Yes — dimensions on all four pieces can be adjusted to fit the room, and other details (hardware on the dresser, shelf configuration on Nightstand No. 2, etc.) can be adjusted as well. Reach out before ordering to discuss specifics, or see each individual product page for piece-specific customization notes.

(10) Can custom cord pass-through holes be added to the nightstands? Yes — cord pass- through holes can be added to either Nightstand No. 1 or Nightstand No. 2. Specify where the holes should go when placing the order, or reach out before ordering to discuss.

(11) Can I buy just one nightstand, or swap in a different piece? The set is the four pieces above, with two nightstands always included. For single pieces, substitutions, or a bed-only / dresser-only order, each piece is available on its own product page — linked above under each piece description.

(12) Can I see this piece in person? Yes. All components of the bedroom set are on display at the Minneapolis showroom, alongside the full furniture collection. See showroom hours or book an appointment.
